Class Sport
At Waverley Public School, we understand the importance of developing their knowledge and skills in physical education (PE). The teachers embed PE into programs to ensure students consistently build their skills and movements. Class sport and integrated lessons allow students to develop social and cognitive skills as they learn how to communicate and interact with others. This ensures students can become empowered, self-confident and responsible citizens.
C&M Sports (K-6)
At Waverley Public School, we provide a physical education (PE) program that focuses on developing fundamental movement and performance skills throughout K to 6. Students grow their confidence in different movement concepts, as well as understanding the importance of well-being. Students participate with an externally provided program called C&M sports. These lessons develop their physical, emotional and social skills. The program provides students with opportunities to participate in fun, exciting and highly beneficial activities such as gymnastics, fundamental skills, team sports and athletics. These activities are both cognitively stimulating and physically challenging.
PSSA Sport (Years 3-6)
Primary Schools Sporting Association (PSSA) sport is held in winter terms (Term 2-3). At the end of Term 1, students in Years 3-6 can try out to represent Waverley Public School in our soccer and netball teams.
- Mixed Junior and Senior Soccer
- Girls Junior and Senior Soccer
- Junior and Senior Netball
What is PSSA Sport?
PSSA stands for Primary Schools Sports Association where schools across NSW are organised into zone groups. Waverley Public School is part of the Sydney Coastal School sports zone. Our zone covers 17 schools including Bellevue Hill, Bondi, Bondi Beach, Bronte, Clovelly, Coogee, Darlinghurst, Double Bay, Glenmore Road, Kensington, Paddington, Plunkett Street, Randwick, Rose Bay, Vaucluse, Waverley and Woollahra Public Schools.
How are PSSA teams selected?
PSSA sports are offered to all interested students from Years 3-6; however with limited numbers due to Waverley Public School team entries, students must try out for their preferred team. When selecting students, consideration will be given to those students who display a strong ability and high skills, as well as good sportsmanship, cooperation and a positive attitude.
Our primary teachers will work collaboratively in the selection process to ensure it is fair and equitable. If two players show a similar ability, and placements are limited, preference will be given to the students in Year 4 (for junior teams) and Year 6 (for senior teams).
