Languages

In NSW primary schools, the study of a language is optional.

Language study allows students to develop communication skills, learn about languages as systems and explore the relationship between language and culture. Students engage with the linguistic and cultural diversity of societies and reflect on their understanding of social interactions.

Italian

At Waverley Public School all students from K-6 participate in an Italian language program. We believe that by learning a second language, students will develop communication skills and knowledge that will assist them to understand language, culture and humanity, thus contributing to the development of culturally aware citizens.

Our Italian program is run by Mr Neil Kirkby who specialises in teaching the Italian language through singing and drama.

In Term 4, 2021 our Italian Festival Day will celebrate the rich culture of Italy with dance, song, drama and food.

The Waverley Public School Junior Choir specialises in singing a variety of Italian songs from opera to 1950s pop.
