Before your child starts Kindergarten

When do children start school?
Children turning 5 before 31st July 2027 are eligible for enrolment in 2027.
Pre-Kindy chats

Enrolled children and their parents and carers will be invited to a pre-Kindy chat with the school principal (July-August 2026). We will share information and work together as you prepare for your child to commence school. This is a time to share:

  • medical conditions or allergies
  • learning support needs
  • family circumstances that may affect your child’s start

We want every child to feel safe, supported and included in school life.

Getting ready at home

You can help your child to be ready for their first day by encouraging independence and routines. This could include your child:

  • packing and unpacking their bag
  • dressing themselves and practising hygiene
  • following simple routines at home

What to expect in Kindergarten

Learning and development
Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Students build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, health and physical activity, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.
Daily routines
Students learn routines such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in, but practising at home helps.
Best Start Assessment
At the start of the year, all Kindergarten children take part in the Best Start Assessment. Teachers will sit with your child to learn about their literacy and numeracy skills so that they can develop an appropriate teaching program that caters for your child. It is not a test and needs no preparation.
